I had a power failure on my test machine which is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyer-V.
It had seven virtual machines, and one of them was configured as a file server with 4 VHD's of 200GB. Due to the power-failure 3 VHD's o this file server became corrupt.
I managed to repair 2 of them by compressing them in Hyper-V. The data of the 3rd i was able to recover through WinImage, which is able to open VHD files in an explorer like window.
VHD or Virtual Hard Disks are a god way to create backup and work on several operating systems without the pressure to install a new physical hard drive or partition. The Virtual hard disk can effectively host NTFS, FAT, exFAT and UDFS file systems while supporting the standard disk as well as operations. VHD is useful when developers or testers need to check a particular software/application in different operating systems. It lets them install and use several operating systems without buying individual hard disks.
